I was very attached to the Madison Avenue Bookshop, because of my Harvard connection to its owner, Arthur Lehman Loeb, and its excellence. It was a walk-up. The bodegas played loud salsa music late into the night, as Dominican men played dominoes on the corner. My first loss was my partner, around the time Grace Kelly died in 1982. There was a theater called the Capri that I went to a lot. We also created a percussive orchestra that was all pots and pans and a lot of racket, and that was the debut of the band Pulsallama.
